Baptism is an act of obedience for new believers. In John 14:15, Jesus says, "
If ye love me, keep my commandments." The Bible gives this command to new believers in
Matthew 28:19,20, gives examples of baptism in
Acts 2:41 and
Acts 16:30-33, and speaks of its purpose in
Romans 6:5,6.
Our church believes and practices baptism by immersion. As the candidate for baptism stands in the water, it symbolizes the death of Jesus on the cross. As they are placed under the water, it symbolizes the burial of Jesus, and then as they are raised out of the water, it symbolizes the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
